Ping Xiao-Canelim capsules are manufactured by the Chinese Anti Cancer Institute as a Class A traditional Chinese anti cancer medicine. The product is also found in the State’s Basic Medicinal Insurance Drugs catalog. It’s sometimes called Que Canelim. Ping Xiao is the Chinese name for the combination; Canelim is the product name. Researchers generally associate Canelim capsules with cancer treatments for therapeutic purposes but the Canelim capsules can be used for other conditions, based on the properties of the herbs the Canelim formula contains.
Ping Xiao capsules contain the following herbs:
• Radix curcumae – antidepressant, cholagogue, stroke preventative, heart attack preventative, gastric cancer prevention, H. pylori inhibitor,
The herb formulation contains 58 bioactive ingredients and is useful for the prevention of stroke and heart disease. The active ingredient diterpenoid C was found to inhibit H. pylori, according to a 2013 study.
In an animal study done at First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical Hospital, rats that received Radix curcumae showed a rate of stomach cancer at 12.5% compared to the 44.4% rate of those rats that didn’t get the herbs.
In another study, an extract of Ping Xiao (not the Ping xiao capsules form) downregulated the expression levels of VEGF (prevented the spread of cancer) and COX-2 (an anti-inflammatory effect) in the intestinal lining of rats fed a carcinogenic agent.
• Fructus Auranti – This herb is called orange peel mushrooms and some researchers equate it with kiwi fruit. It’s been found to be antifungal against Mucor racemosus, one of the types of gut fungi that has been associated with non-obese individuals when in higher numbers as compared to those without it who are obese.
• Herba agrimoniae – This herb has anti-inflammatory action and has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for decades. When evaluated for its anti-inflammatory effect on brain cells damaged by fat-carbohydrate combinations (called lipopolysaccharides), Korean scientists found that the herb can be used to treat brain inflammation. This is because it first of all had no toxicity and secondly, because it suppressed the lipopolysaccharide induced changes on brain cells from inflammation.
• Alumen – Alumen was given to guinea pigs vaginally in suppository form to treat their herpes simplex virus-2 infections in China in a study. In the laboratory tests that were done previously to the animal study, the scientists found that alumen prevented the virus from replication and directly killed it as well as absorbed the virus. The suppositories given at different concentrations could reduce or completely inhibit HSV-2 infection in the animals.
• Niter – Niter is the mineral form of potassium nitrate, KNO3, also called saltpeter or natron. The term generally refers to compounds of sodium or potassium that is combined with nitrate ions or carbonate.
• Resnia toxicodendri – In 2016, medicinal compounds called urushiols were found in the resin of Toxicodendron vernicifluu in China at the China Pharmaceutical University. In fact, eight new ones were discovered. All of them except one were evaluated for their ability to inhibit platelets. This is the ability to prevent blood clotting from occurring in excess. Two of the urushiols were found to be quite effective at inhibiting platelet aggregation. The researchers stated that these compounds might be used as treatment agents for breaking up blood stasis, which was related to platelet aggregation.
• Strychni semen pulveratum – No medical studies have been reported in the medical literature yet on this substance. However, textbooks on Chinese medicine report that it is used for alleviating pain, dissipating nodules and resolving swelling. It affects the liver and spleen meridians. Some situations where it is used include traumatic injury, boils and other skin sores, sore throat, fractures of bones, and rheumatoid arthritis. The Strychni semen pulveratum is scorched and should never be used in raw form.
Que Canelim is used in various conditions of cancers either alone or in combination with traditional treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. It may be used before and after surgery. Used before surgery, it appears to shrink tumor tissue mass and reduce symptoms of cancer in the brain, bone, lung, liver, breast, stomach and esophagus. Some websites report on an effectiveness of between 53.2 and 86% when Ping Xiao Canelim is used.
When herbs are used for conditions of immune deficiency or cancer, it’s because of the properties of the herbs themselves. Some herbs act as antioxidants, others oxygenate the cells, and still others will boost immune function. However, these aren’t the only properties that can benefit someone with cancer.
Here are a few additional ones that are an aide to people with these serious conditions:
• Liver detoxifier – By removing waste products in the cells, the body can begin to work on the cancer with more energy. Dr. John Christopher, founder of the School of Natural Healing in Springville, Utah taught his thousands of herbal students that every cancer patient has a dirty colon and dirty liver. Once these are cleaned up, the body can engage in healing itself from cancer. However, every chronic condition shares this same principle. The dirtier your liver, the less likely you are to heal.
• Colon detoxifier - If your colon can’t detoxify wastes, then your liver will back up its toxin removal because it has to dump its toxins into the colon. Staying on top of good colon function is the most important health tactic that everyone needs to master.
• Lymphatic detoxifier – The lymphatic vessels in the body move waste products out of the cells. The greater the level of waste products in the bloodstream, the more you are polluting all cells of the body. All people with chronic conditions need to work on purifying their lymphatics.
• Reduce side effects of cancer treatments – Nausea, vomiting, extreme weight loss, hair loss, and fatigue are the most common side effects experienced by those who are going through these types of treatments.
• Promote blood circulation
• Pain reduction
• Strengthening body resistance
Dosage varies from 4 to 8 tablets per dosage to up to three times daily. It’s suggested that the herbs are taken for 30 days at a time.
No Canelim capsules side effects have been found.
In an animal study performed at Chongoing Three Gorges University in China in 2009, researchers seeded bile duct cancer cells in the animals via serums at different doses of the cancer cells. Canelim altered the adhesive properties of the cancer cells and reduced the levels of the protein responsible for cancer cells to adhere to the gall bladder, arteries and endothelial cells, thus preventing the metastasis of cancer.
Other studies show that Curcumae contains terpenoids such as B-elemene, furanodiene, furanodienone, curcumol and germacrone which retard cell cycle arrest, induce cancer cell death and inhibit metastasis (tissue invasion).
Doctors at the Chengdu Fuxing Hospital in China reported in 2016 of an interesting patient case where the herb Herba agrimoniae was combined with ginseng, hairyvein agrimonia herb, white flower patrinia herb and arginine and given to her orally for her lung cancer metastases to the spine.
The 59-year-old woman had squamous cell lung cancer but chemotherapy and other treatments failed. Her ninth thoracic vertebra and sixth left rib had been eaten away substantially by the cancer. A CT scan revealed rapid and almost complete bone repair in 40 days with low toxicity.
There have been about 500 cases in Chinese medical literature where Ping Xiao Canelim has been used for different types of cancer, including in one child. The herbal combination has a good track record for lengthening survival of the patient and shrinking tumors.
